Kids 'R' Kids Shares Why Curiosity Is Such an Important Skill for Preschoolers?

Valrico, United States - July 7, 2022 / Kids 'R' Kids Learning Academy of Valrico /

Curiosity is the foundation of learning

When babies are born they are constantly trying to understand and perceive the world around them. This curiosity is the foundation of learning and understanding. Without curiosity, progress, development, and growth are stunted. Kids ‘R’ Kids, an educational preschool, shares the advantages of encouraging and imbibing curiosity in preschoolers.

A preschool environment is a place where a child’s creativity and curiosity are nurtured. Preschools offer stimulating environments that encourage children to ask questions and learn from their thoughts and ideas. Pre-school teachers are trained in creating lessons and interactions that help children explore their imagination and share ideas that are neither right nor wrong.

Reasons why curiosity is a trait that must be nurtured in children

  • A cure to boredom

With the prevalence of gadgets and a variety of entertainment, young children are often deprived of the opportunity to explore their creativity and the world around them. Curiosity often takes a backseat. But if children are encouraged to question and explore the world around them, their dependence on gadgets or constant stimulation to combat boredom would be mitigated. This is a joyous state of exploration that children experience.

  • Cultivates an active mind

Curiosity helps a child become more self-sufficient. As children explore the world around them they figure out a lot of answers and cause-effect relationships. This helps them become more confident and more perceptive of the world around them.

  • It inspires persistence

When exploring new ideas and skills, children learn to pursue the answers to their questions until they are satisfied. Sometimes exploring new situations may even cause anxiety and stress but the willingness to stick through and satiate curiosity builds the quality of grit and persistence.

  • It builds empathy

As children show interest in the world around them, they realize they are not the center of the world. Curiosity about people and situations gives them an insight into other people’s worlds. This builds a very crucial trait of empathy in children which forms the foundation for the kind and perceptive adults.

  • Successful adults

History proves that the most iconic and successful individuals were those who asked questions, incessantly. They asked questions until they found answers that led to some of the biggest inventions and discoveries. Not only do curious individuals find success professionally but they are also some of the happiest people. The findings of a 2019 study in the Journal of Personality have led to some theories that positive emotions may exist in part to help encourage curiosity and the fruitful exploration it encourages.

Parents can nurture their children’s curiosity by showing them the world while traveling or going to a museum, doing activities like baking a cake or going to the park, creating social experiences with friends and family, asking open-ended questions, letting children get bored, giving them opportunities to explore new activities, and allowing adequate unstructured playtime.
